Richmond, VA- October 1, 2009: Turnkey Promotions, a Richmond-based promotions company specializing in non-profit fundraising, announced that its event partner, Susan G. Komen Kansas City Race for the Cure, has surpassed its fundraising and income goals, no small feat in these challenging economic times.

Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City, an affiliate of the global nonprofit Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization, held its Race for the Cure on August 9. “Given the current economic climate, we were a little unsure how this year would go,” said Tammy Butterfield, Director of Development, Komen Kansas City. “In fact, we were hopeful to meet last year’s numbers. We all know that the times are tough and typically that means a more challenging environment for non-profits.”

Butterfield continues, “The event results surpassed our most optimistic expectations. It was the biggest Race for the Cure in Kansas City history. We had 28,505 walkers, runners, and survivors participate, that’s almost 4,000 more than last year. So far the event has raised more than $1.2 million for the fight against breast cancer. That's a 10% increase over the $1.1 million that was raised in 2008. The big increase came in the number of people who not only paid their registration fee, but also raised money for Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City. Everyone who participated was just great and we can’t thank them enough.”

“In these uncertain times it’s nice to hear of a success story like this,” says Becky Lunders, Account Executive at Turnkey Promotions. “On race morning it was clear the passion to find a cure had translated into donations. We could see from activity in online fundraising that these folks don’t just show up and walk, they actively pursue donations for the cause. Successful fundraising takes motivation and commitment. The numbers are still coming in, but so far we see a staggering 15% increase in fundraising dollars. We are pleased that the fundraiser incentive program that Turnkey Promotions developed for Komen Kansas City helped contribute to that increase,” she adds.

The pre-event and incentive-based marketing program Turnkey Promotions developed for Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City is Turnkey’s signature service based on their proprietary non-profit research. “Our research shows that incentive programs, when marketed effectively, really work. In fact, our clients typically see 21-29% revenue increase. Our program is a perfect fit for the non-profit sector that utilizes volunteers, fundraisers and income events to raise awareness and revenue for their cause,” says Turnkey President and CEO, Katrina VanHuss.

“There is no doubt the incentive program Turnkey Promotions developed for us really made a difference. Our fundraising dollars are still coming in and we expect record returns this year,” concludes Butterfield.
