Turnkey Promotions and Virginia Special Olympic Torch Run Partnership Hits Close to Home
Turnkey CEO, Parent to Down Syndrome Young Adult, Says Law Enforcement Officers’
Efforts Make a Personal Difference

(Richmond, VA- November 5, 2009): Turnkey Promotions, a Richmond-based promotions company specializing in non-profit fundraising, announced today that it will supply the Virginia Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run® product program. Turnkey CEO says this program is especially close to her heart.

The Torch Run, started in 1986, brings together more than 3,000 law enforcement officers across Virginia. The participants include FBI, VA ABC, Marine Patrol, and local law enforcement who work tirelessly during the year to fundraise for Special Olympics. They carry the Flame of Hope more than 1,900 miles to kick off the Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games in Richmond each June. The end of the Torch Run and the lighting of the flame is a symbolic testament to the serious commitment the Virginia law enforcement community has for the Special Olympic Virginia’s mission, its athletes, and their families.

“Our law enforcement community is truly one of our most precious partnerships,” says Director of Development Debbie Apperson. They host golf tournaments, stews, pledge drives, and events like the Plane Pull® and the Polar Plunge®. The caps, tee shirts, and tank tops Turnkey will provide help them fundraise and communicate the connection between law enforcement, Special Olympics, and special needs individuals,” she concludes.

Says Turnkey president and CEO Katrina VanHuss, “There is a special place in my heart for Special Olympics and the law enforcement officers of the Torch Run. My company has been fortunate enough to supply the fundraiser recognition program for the Special Olympics Virginia Beach Polar Plunge, but this will be the first time we will support the Torch Run directly. My daughter, who has Down Syndrome, is a Special Olympics cheerleader. I’ve seen her grow more confident and enjoy life more through this activity. The Torch Run participants help to make that happen. It will really be special to see the Torch Run volunteers use an item my company produces,” she concludes.
