(Richmond, VA- July 14, 2011): Turnkey Promotions, a Richmond-based promotions company specializing in nonprofit fundraising incentive programs and corporate recognition campaigns, announced today that it will work directly with the Virginia War Memorial (VWM) and the Virginia American Legion Riders to raise awareness and donations to support the War Memorial’s mission: “Honoring our Veterans, Preserving our History, Educating our Youth, and Inspiring Patriotism in all….” Turnkey will provide fundraising consulting services for the 2011 Patriots’ Tour -- an event expected to bring more than 300 motorcycle riders and other interested parties from across Virginia to the VWM located in Richmond. The event will take place on September 17, in observance of POW/MIA Recognition Day. The event will raise funds for the Virginia War Memorial .
“We work with so many national nonprofits who do fundraising events all over the country. When we get to work with a Richmond nonprofit it’s really something extra special because we are making an impact close to home,” says Katrina VanHuss, CEO, Turnkey Promotions. “Most nonprofits know about our fundraiser incentive program work, but we also do consulting work as well. This time we will help the Virginia War Memorial build a volunteer infrastructure with groups such as the Virginia American Legion Riders and use our fundraising strategy and technology to further their mission. This event will enhance the Memorial’s already successful fundraising effort.”
The fundraising ride will culminate at the VWM which was created in the 1950’s by the Virginia General Assembly to honor Virginia's veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Included at the Memorial is The Shrine of Memory, a majestic glass and marble monument which overlooks the James River and Richmond's historic and business districts; within its walls are engraved the names of more than 11,600 Virginia war heroes.
“The Riders are committed to honoring all our Virginia veterans and particularly our POW/MIA’s. We will never forget. Helping to fund the VWM is one way to make sure no one does,” says Chuck Talley, one of two chairmen for the volunteer effort on behalf of the Virginia American Legion Riders. (Forrest Lingerfelt will also share chair duties.)
Harry Warner, Executive Director of the Virginia War Memorial Education Foundation, says, “We are excited to be working with Turnkey to honor the Commonwealth’s veterans for their sacrifice and service. Having a company like Turnkey work with us will strengthen the relationships we have with the American Legion Riders and other supporters who will provide ongoing financial support for the War Memorial to fulfill its education and patriotic mission. We know we’re building an event that will go on for a long, long time.”
The Patriots’ Tour will take place on September 17, 2011. Teams of motorcycle riders and other participants will travel from all over Virginia to converge on the VWM for commemorative and recognition ceremonies. The tour will be led by the American Legion Riders. A Poker Run after the ceremonies is also part of the activities.
